DJ Dopey and Rochester Take Off

Here is a sneak peek of a shoot I did with Rochester and DJ Dopey.  We shot this at the Mint Agency in Toronto for an interview with Fazer Magazine.  There was a random telephone booth in their office and we made the best of it.  Rochester and 'Dopey' were fabulous to work with.  They didn't even flinch at the suggestion of crowding into a telephone booth with my assistant who held up the phone (visible to the left of Rochester and just over Dope's head).  The walls behind were white making it easy for me to extract the booth and put it on a stock photo of space.  I did a little more tweaking in Photoshop to create a very nostalgic feel of the movie poster from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.  Who says we have to grow up?

Suzie McNeil cover shoot for Fazer Magazine

How lucky was I to have the lovely Suzie McNeil take some time out of her day to get gussied up with my team of talented pros and pose for a photo shoot for this month's cover of Fazer Magazine?  Very lucky.  She is remarkable to work with and I just adored working with her.

I really owe a lot of credit to my team.  Shawn Haynes, a talented film director assisted me with creative direction and videotaped the interview Fazer conducted at the studio.  Madi Styles put together two stellar outfits with clothing and accessories from Fashion Crimes.  Melissa Nicholl from Make Up For Ever provided the stunning hair and makeup.  A lighter version for the sweetheart look and a wild hair style and makeup application for the killer look that suited Suzie's alter ego "Z".  The two styles contrasted eachother perfectly and I even decided to play with a few of the shots in Photoshop.

Since it was the month of Valentine's, I just had to get a shot of Suzie with a Sweet Heart candy in her mouth.  So, the day before the shoot, I scoured the city looking for the popular holiday candy which really wasn't that popular after searching several stores with no luck.   No worries, in the end I did find some at a major department store and got the shot I wanted.  Now, the best thing about this shot is that I can change the words on the candy to whatever I like.  I chose to put JAYLYN on one shot I wanted for my portfolio.  I also put FAZER on the same photo because I thought it may look cool for the cover.  After setting up the image with the cover template, I realized it looked more like the cover of a teen beauty mag than a music/entertainment zine.

This is fun photo you can do yourself if you have a digital camera and are handy with Photoshop.  I just used the clone tool to carefully remove the words on the candy and then typed my new word, FAZER in pink.  I then used the transform tool to make the letters fit properly and then played with the blending and opacity of the text layer so it looked a little more realistic.
Since we didn't ues the image above for the final cover, I guess I should show you what I did end up using.  Ta da!  (I love saying that)

Here are some more photos from our session.

"I See Dead People!"

Sometimes I get to cover some amazing concerts, bands and events but Saturday, January 9, I had the opportunity to photograph the Body Worlds exhibit at the Toronto Science Centre.  This is awesome because noone is allowed to take photos unless they are accredited media.  Well, thank goodness FazerMagazine.com decided to cover it.  Now you're probably asking yourself, "what is Body Worlds?".  They are first-of-their-kind exhibitions through which visitors learn about anatomy, physiology, and health by viewing real human bodies, using an extraordinary process called Plastination.  You might remember seeing them in the James Bond film, Casino Royale.  Well, now you get to see them for yourself right here.  Enjoy!
