To Blog or Not To Blog? (Also a bit about me)

Let me start by saying I'm new to this blogging thing.

I've heard about blogging and now I'm joining the millions...wait....billions of people that rant everyday about their lives in Cyberspace like someone cares. Well, obviously, someone does because I don't know anybody under the age of 30 that doesn't know what a blog is. Even the Merriam-Webster Dictionary recognizes the term (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/blog). Lately, a few people have asked me if/suggested that I have a blog because they think it would be interesting to hear more about what I do.

You see, I'm a freelance photographer in the entertainment industry and I'm blessed to have worked and met some pretty influential people. Not to say the kid that makes my Tim Horton's coffee for me isn't influential. Trust me. You don't want to be on set or in studio with me if I haven't had a decent cup of java. Maybe influential isn't the word. Basically, I love to capture people who are risking it all to pursue something they are passionate about since I left a career in sales/marketing to become a full-time photog with no camera and no post secondary education in the subject. Something a career cousellor would seriously frown upon but, hey, here I am doing what I love and I'm not exactly a starving artist.

Maybe this is where I tell you how I started out. A couple years ago I woke up and thought...wait....I didn't really wake up. Truthfully, I was hanging out with my good friend G and we were talking about what we would REALLY like to do with our lives (if we had the balls). I just thought it would be cool to be able to snap photos and get paid. So I got a camera and started snapping whatever I saw like most people do when they get a camera. Eventually, I volunteered for a local paper and ended up at a poetry reading in the back lounge of a billiard hall in Mississauga, Ontario where I met a woman named Jax and she introduced me to her teenage daughter, Katee. Katee was the lead singer in a band called Dame (now called Moeraes Fate) which was discovered and produced by the late Haydain Neale of Jacksoul. They invited me to come out and take photos at one of her live shows and from there I became a concert photographer and hooked up with http://www.fazermagazine.com photographing some of my favourite artists/bands. Now of course, I photograph more than live shows. I have my own photography business and work in studio and on location capturing artists/models for magazine covers, editorials, advertisements, promotional materials and websites. My work can be viewed at http://www.jaylynphoto.ca (or on bus shelters, billboards, and album covers but going to my site by clicking on the hyperlink would be faster)

Other than my website, this blog is where I will give you further insight into my adventures as a photographer in the industry and take you along on my journey as I constantly grow in my new profession. I thank you in advance for your support....now let's start blogging! Um, nix that. I AM blogging (I told you I was new to this *shrugs*).
